Night 1:
We started off by checking in at the hotel, and then meeting Jack and Miki at The Bookstore, in Wellfleet to visit our buddy Joey Joe Joe. We love him.
Several dozen oysters, scallops, clams and beers later, I was drinking rum – straight up. The band Skeeter and the Buzztones, an amazing acoustic rock band, was playing right next to us. The lead singer, Jodi, has an amazingly sultry voice that melted Anne into one giant puddle of lust.
I can't recall the conversations, but I do remember laughing so hard my sides hurt for two days. After several hours, we piled back into the truck and slithered back to Chez Coppola, where Miki poured Anne and I some lethal cosmopolitans. Well, she called it a cosmo. I think she poured a glass of vodka and then waived a bottle of food coloring over the top. Thanks to the wonders of ADD and beer, I didn't realize she had refilled my glass: I was too mesmerized by Jack's catalog of shiny handguns. Apparently, I bought a small arsenal of weapons that evening. The NRA should come a knockin' any day now.
After that, things get a little fuzzy…
I vaguely remember calling Robyn on her cell phone on our way back to Ptown at the early hour of 11pm and telling her to sneak out and meet us at the bar. (I’m sure she’ll fill you in on the messy details.)
She wisely declined.
We hit Ptown around 11:30 and headed over to Spiritus for a slice of pizza and then we ended up at Chaser’s, which is a lesbian bar that essentially looks like someone’s basement. We were decidedly unimpressed. I did manage to sober up enough to recognize friends there, and we hung out for a bit before heading back to the room to crash.
Day 2
I missed breakfast Saturday morning. Obviously.
Robyn called me fucko several times to stress her disgust of my inability to lift my head without causing acute vertigo.
After a few minutes, I convinced the 4 whores ladies to go to breakfast without me -- which they promptly did. They hit Bubala's for breakfast and gave me a whole lot of crap for not coming upon their return. They kindly steered me over to the Portuguese Bakery for an egg sandwich once I showered and removed the booze ooze from my skin.
Saturday afternoon we headed back over to Jack and Miki’s for more abuse and Saturday Celebration: build-your-own tacos and sangria. Miki once again made her famous berry tart and ice cream for desert. Good god. I'm still sticky.
I abstained from imbibing any alcohol, however, and threatened bodily harm if she ever put a glass of vodka in front of me again. Oh wait, I did have a tiny glass of champagne. Hair of the dog. Or something like that.
Day 3
Sunday it rained mostly, so we spent a good portion of the day shopping, hanging out in a really cool café, the Cinema, which was tucked away in the new Fisherman’s Wharf, playing Mille Bornes and then at Govenor Bradford’s, where I imbibed a few more Coronas, shared a pot of steamers with Anne, and whipped her and Deb’s ass in chess.
Sunday night we all went to see Suzanne Westenhoefer at the Post Office Café. She was great – very funny. The POC, however, will not get my business again. $22.50 for tix is one thing, but there’s a 2-drink minimum that they charge you for UP FRONT. What pissed us off was that they don’t tell you that they are charging your for 2 drinks – you figure it out when you get hit with an $8 tab for a coke and a water. To add insult to injury, the waitress never came around to take our second order -- unacceptable. Plus, she had major attitude. It would be one thing if the place was packed – but it was only half filled, and the show was an hour long. Not even her British accent could charm me into giving her a tip ...
